Watertown – Mrs. D. Agnes (McGann) Mannix, of Watertown, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 86.
Agnes was born in Waltham on August 30, 1930, a daughter of the late Benedict J. and Nora T. (Malloy) McGann. She was a graduate of Waltham High School. After that she went to work at Grover Cronin's on Moody Street where she eventually became a buyer for the store.
Following her June, 1953 marriage to Watertown native Albert J. Mannix the couple lived in Waltham before moving two years later to Watertown where they raised their family. After her children were grown Agnes went to work for the Raytheon Company until her retirement.
Agnes loved taking care of her home and her family. She was the original home renovator long before television made it popular. Agnes was never afraid to tackle a project around the house and loved sharing her knowledge and experience with her family.
She loved holidays and true to her Irish heritage put Saint Patrick's Day near the top of the list. She followed Boston sports and remained fit throughout her life by walking daily.
The wife of the late Albert J. Mannix she leaves her children, Noreen M. Gaspar and her husband, Allan, of Watertown, Albert J. Mannix of Watertown, Brian B. Mannix and his wife, Carol, of Barrington Rhode Island, Kevin P. Mannix of Waltham, Patricia A. Metcalfe and her husband, Bruce, of Medway, Shawn M. Mannix and his wife, Kathy, of N. Ft. Myers, Florida and Eileen M. McHugh of Watertown; nine grandchildren including Patrick McHugh and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a sister of the late Martin McGann, Peter McGann, Marie Spaulding and Benedict McGann and great-grandmother of the late Simon.
Family and friends will honor and remember Agnes' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, February 13th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
