Waltham – Mr. Alain D. Velis, of Waltham, died on September 24, 2013 in South Shore Hospital. He was 44.
Alain was born in Boston on August 14, 1969, the son of Florencio and Maria (Rodriguez) Velis of Waltham. He graduated from Waltham Vocational High School and earned his bachelor's degree from UMass Lowell.
Alain loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing with his son, hiking with his friends, a hunting trip with his dad as a child or simply working in the yard. He was a strong man and enjoyed spending time in the gym. Most important to him was being with his family, his life was his son and he loved to take him to dinner on Thursday nights, spend any afternoon sharing a lunch with his mother, a casual dinner with Michelle and he always looked forward to trips to Texas to visit his godparents. He was a diehard Boston sports fan and especially loved his Patriots and Red Sox.
Besides his parents, Florencio and Maria, he is survived by his son, Jake Velis; his siblings, Steven Velis and Gloria Mills of Waltham and Maria Bonilla of Shrewsbury; his companion, Michelle Longo of Marshfield; his godparents Padrino and Madrina Rodriguez of Webster, Texas and also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and three nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Alain's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday September 29th, from 2 to 6 p.m. and again on Monday at 12 noon when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
