Waltham – Mr. Albert L. Aucoin, of Waltham, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 89.
Al was born in Waltham on September 10, 1919, a son of the late Amedee and Mary Aucoin and had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Waltham in 1937 and during World War II he served with the United States Marine Corps. He joined the service in January of 1942 and shortly after being sent out to the fleet he participated in the invasion at Guadalcanal, the first land battle to re-take the Pacific. He was discharged in June of 1945.
After the war, Al attended Wentworth Institute and became a draftsman for the Badger Manufacturing Company, an engineering firm in Cambridge. After he retired the company became part of the Raytheon Corporation. He loved sports and was an avid golfer in retirement.
He leaves his wife of fifty-nine years, Annette M. (DiNardo) Aucoin; his son, Albert L. Aucoin, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Amherst, New Hampshire; his grandchildren, Michael 'Andy' Aucoin and his wife Shelly, and Scott L. Aucoin two step-grandchildren, Matthew A. and Gregory D. Confer; one sister, Yvonne Kenney of Woburn and many nieces and nephews.
Al was also a brother of the late Edward and Wilfred Aucoin, Alma LaFond, Stella Bates, Bernadette Frechette, Jeannette Heathcote and Gertrude Gumbert.
Family and friends will honor and remember Al's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Private burial services will be held in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
