Hernando, FL- Mr. Albert Barber of Hernando, Florida formerly of Waltham, died Saturday October 11, 2003 in his home. He was 90. Born in Pescara, Italy, Mr. Barber was a plant manager for B.F. Goodrich in Watertown and Elgin, SC for over thirty-five years before retiring in 1972. A highly respected amateur golfer during the 1950s and 1960s, he was New England Amateur Medallist in 1960. He held 12 Club Championships during the 1950s and the 1960s at both the South Shore Country Club in Hingham and Wayland Golf Club. A lifelong friend of Phil Farina, Mr. Barber served as Director of Golf Operations at the South Shore Country Club from 1972-1990. Mr. Barber was the brother of the late Joseph Carastia, Lucy Farrell and Viola Volpe. He is survived by his wife Esther (Venini), his children, Carole Stolzenbach and Robert M. Barber both of Milton, Peter A. Barber of Marlboro, David J. Barber of Wayland, Judith Hunt of So. Yarmouth, Alfred J. Barber M.D. of Elizabeth City, NC, Stephen M. Barber of Millis, Mary Wells of Portland, OR, Susan Carestia of Norwell and Paul P. Barber of Alpena, MI, one sister Mary Poutasse of Portland, ME, 21 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be offered Friday at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 St. Marys Road, Milton. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Citris County, 3350 W.
