Waltham – Mr. Albert F. ‘Al’ DellaCamera, of Waltham, died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at his home. He was 87.
Al was born in Waltham on April 21, 1924, a son of the late Luigi and Filomena (DiCurtis) DellaCamera, and had been a lifelong resident. During the Korean War he served as a sergeant with the United States Army.
He began working in construction as a teenager and became a supervisor for Greenough Brothers Construction. He oversaw the construction of Blessed John XXXIII Seminary in Weston and until his retirement worked there for thirty years as the building and grounds supervisor. Al loved playing golf and was a member of the ‘Inner Club’ at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland. He was also an avid swimmer and could be found at beaches all around the New England coast.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Irene J. (Cusano) DellaCamera; his children, Susan Papia and her husband, Charles, Karen Chiasson and her husband, Richard, all of Waltham, Debra DellaCamera and her husband, Mark Rogers, of Lincoln and Gail DellaCamera-Wessell of Maynard; his grandchildren, Carrie Casey and her husband, Christopher, Jerid Chiasson, Sophia DellaCamera-Rogers and Taylor and Brogan Wessell; his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Alexandra Casey; his sister, Ida Uttaro of Waltham; his sister-in-law, Lillian DellaCamera of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Al was also a brother of the late John and Ernest DellaCamera.
Family and friends will honor and remember Al’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, June 15th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
