Lunenburg – Mr. Albert J. Finney Jr., of Lunenburg, formerly of Waltham, died at home on Sunday, August 28, 2016. He was 86.
Al was born in Waltham on July 14, 1930, a son of the late Albert J. and Esther (Ryan) Finney. A graduate of the former Saint Mary's High School he later earned his Bachelor's degree from Boston College.
During the Korean War he served as a first lieutenant with United States Marine Corps.
A lifelong Waltham resident, he and his wife moved to Lunenburg to live with their daughter in 2011.
Al worked as a certified public accountant for the Raytheon Corporation for over 30 years, before retiring in 1993. He also was a longtime teacher at Northeastern University where he taught bookkeeping and accounting in its night school program.
He had a lifelong passion for baseball and was very active in Waltham's Little Nippers Baseball League for many years. He enjoyed a round of golf and was often seen enjoying a good cigar.
His wife, Patricia A. (Connors) Finney died May 17, 2011.
He leaves their children, Noreen A. Finney of Marlborough, Thomas M. Finney of Sterling, William G. Finney and his wife, Cindy of Hudson, Edward J. Finney and Robert A. Finney, both of Waltham and Patricia E. Bontempo and her fiancé, William Fisher, of Lunenburg; his sister, Elaine Anzalone of Hudson; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Albert's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, August 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
