Waltham – Mrs. Alexandrina 'Lena' 'Lee' (DiPinto) Bettinelli, of Waltham, died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She was 88.
Lee was born in Somerville on February 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Raphael and Anita (Cicerano) DiPinto, and after high school went to work in the accounting department for Sears, Roebuck & Company.
In May, 1957 Lee married Frank S. Bettinelli, a native of Boston's West End, and the couple made their home in Somerville. Nine years later they moved to Waltham where they became lifelong members of Our Lady's Parish. Lee also took up her career in accounting and secretarial work for the Massachusetts National Guard, first at the armory on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston and later at Camp Curtis Guild in Reading.
Lee reserved her greatest energy and affection for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and doting 'Grammy' to her grandchildren. True to her Italian heritage she was a terrific cook and was happiest when her family was gathered around her table. She and Frank enjoyed life's simple joys . . . drives to beaches on the North Shore or in Maine, playing a hand of cards and the company of their loved ones.
In addition to her husband of sixty-one years, Frank, she leaves her children, Stephen Bettinelli and his wife, Brenda, of Boston, David Bettinelli and his wife, Michele, and Robert Bettinelli and his wife, Stephanie, all of Chelmsford; her grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Christian and Nathaniel Bettinelli; her sister, Ann White and her husband, Norman, of Framingham; her sister-in-law, Lorraine DiPinto of Medford and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was also a sister of the late Vincent, Anthony, Augustino, Salvatore and Ralph DiPinto.
Family and friends will honor and remember Lee's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 28th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady's Parish, 920R Trapelo Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
