Waltham - Mr. Alfred G. Bonica, Of Waltham, died Tuesday, December 29, 20154 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford. He was 87.
Al was born February 22, 1928 in Waltham, a son of the late Stephen A. and Carmela (Cappadona) Bonica. Raised and educated in Waltham he was a lifelong resident. Alfred honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He began work at the Waltham Watch Factory and later worked as a security officer for Raytheon Corporation where he was instrumental in establishing the Raytheon Guards Union Association. He worked over 25 years before retiring in 1992.
Al's interests included gardening and tomato plants, his much loved Boston Red Sox, time with his family and his dog, 'Jovi'.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his siblings, Dr. Angelo Bonica, Felix Bonica and Catherine Cormier.
He leaves his son, Stephen A. Bonica and his wife, Diane and his grandson, Stephen A. Bonica, all of Waltham; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Alfred's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, January 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
