Waltham – Mrs. Alice A. (O'Connell) Breton, of Waltham, died peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was 73.
Alice was born in West Newton on February 22, 1940, the daughter of the late David and Nora (Higgins) O'Connell. She grew up in Waltham and graduated from Saint Mary's High School in 1958.
On August 26, 1960, she married Alfred J. Breton. They were happily married for forty-three years until Alfred's death in August of 2003.
Alice enjoyed playing many games, including cribbage, Trouble, cards and was often found with a puzzle book in hand. She also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas.
Her professional life began at Metropolitan Life Insurance and then at BayBank in Waltham where she worked for over thirty years as a supervisor in the data processing department.
In addition to her husband, Alfred, she was predeceased by her brother David O'Connell.
She leaves her children, Dawn M. Messer and her husband, James, of Mississippi, David W. Breton and his wife, Tammi-Sue, of Waltham, and Tracey Peirce and her companion, William Ferguson, of Florida; her grandchildren, Emily Deibler, Jeffrey Messer, Kaity Humble, Shawn and Ashlee Breton and Ryan, Chelsea and Logan Peirce; her great-grandchildren, Davis Deibler and Cohen Messer; her siblings, William J. O'Connell of Waltham and Kathleen O'Connell of Watertown and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Alice's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday morning, August 22nd, from 9 to 10:30 a.m before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
