Newton – Mr. Allan S.M. Wong, of Newton, formerly of Waltham, died at home on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. He was 85.
Allan was born in Boston on April 15, 1929, one of seven children born to the late Hop "Harry" and Quan (Shee) Wong and moved to Waltham as a child. He was a graduate of Waltham High School. During his growing up years Allan worked alongside other family members at their well-known restaurant, the Nanking, in Central Square, Waltham.
After high school he trained at the former Waltham Watch Factory and later went to work and spent his career at the Raytheon Company retiring as a precision technician. In 1958 Allan married Deborah M.L. (Lee) Wong and the couple made their home in Waltham before moving to Newton in 2006.
In retirement Allan found great delight spending time with his grandchildren. He was a longtime and active member of the Newton Senior Center on Walnut Street where he spent a great deal of time and made many lasting friendships.
Allan's wife of fifty-two years, Deborah, died on June 13, 2010.
He leaves his children, Brenda Wong Murphy and her husband, Brian, of Beverly, Linda Wong Kee and her husband, Kelly, of Newton, and Christina Wong Chin and her husband, Douglas, of Newton; his grandchildren, Kara and Zachary Murphy, Brandon, Kayla, and Connor Kee, and Brian Chin; his sister and brothers, Florence Yuen of Alpha, New Jersey, Edward Wong of Waltham and Bolton Wong of Bourne and many nieces and nephews.
Allan was also a brother of the late Francis Wong, Priscilla Lee and Clifford Wong.
Family and friends will honor and remember Allan's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, December 29th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
