Alvin B. Briggs

Waltham, Mass. – Mr. Alvin B. Briggs, of Niskayuna, New York died on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. He was 93.

Alvin was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on November 3, 1923, the son of the late Cecilia (Seabring) and Alvin Briggs, Sr. He honorably served with the United States Army during World War II where he was a member of the 548th Quartermaster Headquarters in France and Germany.

Upon his return home he enrolled at Franklin Technical Institute in Boston where he graduated in 1948. Before his retirement he worked as an engineering technician for forty years at General Electric Knolls Atomic Power Lab at Peek Street in Schenectady, in Niskayuna and at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho.

He is survived by his children, Dean P. Briggs of Clinton, Massachusetts and Kathryn J. Santos of Pepperell, Massachusetts; his grandsons, Andrew R. and Benjamin R. Briggs; his niece, Patricia Van Zante-Bordelon and many grand nieces and nephews.

He was the former husband of the late Marylin Fish, brother of the late Shirley Cooksey and step-brother of the late Clara Demeo.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, New York.
