Anastasia J. Houston

September 18, 1913 — December 23, 2014

Weymouth - Mrs. Anastasia J. (Hickey) Houston, of Weymouth, formerly of Belmont, Waltham and Weston, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Pope Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weymouth. She was 101.

Anne was born in Outer Cove, Newfoundland on September 18, 1913, a daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Dyer) Hickey. As the oldest daughter of eight children she was self-taught and worked hard to help provide for her family.

In her late 20's she moved to the Boston area with her future husband, David A. Houston. Their wedding was put on hold due to the outbreak of World War II. During the war Anne worked at a factory in Boston that produced rubber rafts and David served with the Army overseas. Upon his return home the pair married on December 31, 1945. Anne had a strong work ethic and started out cleaning houses, then worked in the factory to help the war efforts, then becoming a sales associate at Filene's in Belmont and ultimately retired as the regional sales representative at Burlington Industries.

Anne was creative by nature and loved to cook, paint and spend time in her garden. With her caring and infectious personality she was loved by all. Her faith and her family came first and she loved visiting with her many nieces and nephews, both in New England and Newfoundland.

The wife of the late David A. Houston, who died on July 21, 2005, she is survived by her sister, Mary Boland of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and many nieces and nephews including Thomas Fardy of Plymouth, Catherine Brown of Hyde Park, Bernadette White of Walpole, Agnes Donovan, Catherine Falvey and Daniel Houston, all of Dedham.

She was the sister of the late Daniel Hickey, David Hickey, George Hickey, Martin Hickey, Eileen Fardy and Patrick Hickey.

Family and friends will honor and remember Anne's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday morning, December 29th from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter Of The Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Rd., Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt.
