Mr. Andre J. Maillet, of Waltham, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Benchmark Senior Living in Shrewsbury. He was 87.
Andre was a son of the late Joseph and Dina (Cormier) Maillet. Born in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, on November 21, 1935, Andre spent his childhood and youth there before work brought him to Montreal , where he met the love of his life, Rogersville, New Brunswick native, Beatrice Lavoie. The couple married in Montreal, and soon settled in Waltham, Massachusetts to start their family and their new life together. They remained life-long Waltham residents and were married for fifty-four years before Beatrice’s passing in 2016.
Andre was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who worked hard every day to be a great provider for his family. He was a talented finish carpenter whose work ethic made him an excellent craftsman. He truly loved his long career in woodworking, working for himself for many of those years.
His children recall the memories they shared with him, and Mom, during their summer trips back ‘home’ to New Brunswick as some of their happiest times together. Andre also enjoyed taking his boat out off the coast of Massachusetts, for a good day of fishing, weekends away camping with family and friends, and watching his Montreal Canadiens, especially if they were taking on the Bruins! But he considered any day surrounded by his family, to be a good day.
Andre is survived by his children, France J. Maillet of Hanson, Michel J. Maillet (Karen Ryan) of Shrewsbury, Marlene M. Chartier (Thomas) of Shrewsbury and Rachel M. Maillet (Matthew Forbes) of Medfield; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Julia and Olivia Maillet, Kayla and Ashley Chartier and Brooke Forbes; his brother, Albéo Maillet (Dorine) of Bouctouche and his sister, Marie Smith (late Wendell) of Riverview, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his late wife, Beatrice M. (Lavoie) Maillet, Andre is predeceased by his sisters, Noëlla (1956), Marguerite (1971), Rita (1992) and Therese (2022), and his brothers Ti-Aurèle, Gérard (2000), Alphonse (2004), Hervé (2008), Aurèle (2018), Yvon (2022).
Family and friends will honor and remember Andre's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, May 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
