Waltham – Miss Ann M. Blakely, of Waltham, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Newton- Wellesley Hospital. She was 80.
Ann was born in Waltham on August 19, 1935, a daughter of the late Vincent and Anna (Finnerty) Blakely. She was a graduate of the Massachusetts Hospital School and later served on the alumni board for many years. She then attended Northeastern University earning a certificate in therapeutic recreation.
Until her retirement she worked for thirty-seven years for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Ann's faith was very important to her and she was a very active member of Saint Jude Parish in Waltham. She was one of the founders of the Saint Jude Folk Group Choir and acted as clerical support for the Saint Jude CCD program. In addition to her work with the church, Ann also served on the advisory board of the Massachusetts Association of Paraplegics and belonged to the South Side Seniors.
Ann leaves her sister, Mary T. Taranto and her husband, Angelo, of North Chelmsford and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edward D. Blakely.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ann's life by gathering for visitation in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, November 21st from 9 to 10 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
