Mrs. Ann M. (Murphy) Burgoyne, of Hingham and Green Harbor, formerly of Waltham, was born into Eternal Life on Saturday, December 24, 2022. The day of her 89th Birthday.
Ann Marie Murphy was born December 24, 1933 in Cambridge. The oldest daughter of the late George T. and Helen M. (Madden) Murphy. A graduate of Holy Cross Academy in Brookline she then worked for a time at her family’s insurance business, The George T Murphy Insurance Agency, located in Harvard Square, Cambridge. She married Waltham native James E. Burgoyne in Saint Jude’s Church in Waltham on May 16, 1959. They made Waltham their home for many years and spent summers in Green Harbor. Jim was called to the Lord on September 1, 2010.
In 2012, Ann moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham where she quickly adapted to her new living and was a friend to many. She was a member of the Nancy Club.
Known to family and friends mostly as Nan, she was also known throughout the years as Ann, Ann Marie, Nancy, Mrs. B and instead of Grandmother, self proclaimed herself Honey…she was the Matriarch of her family and throughout her life would list her occupation as a ‘Homemaking Engineer’. She stayed at home to raise her five children and was active in their lives as they grew up in Waltham. Ann was a devoted member of Saint Jude’s Parish where she volunteered countless hours in the school library. She also had affection for the religious Marist Sisters and volunteered at the Marist Hill Nursing Home in Waltham.
She and Jim loved to travel and their trips to Aruba were always on the schedule. Perhaps most memorable was a cruise over the equator during a visit to Hawaii and Easter Island. They also made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and she loved being able to visit Lourdes.
But for Nan, spending her Summers in Green Harbor were the most cherished memories for her. Always telling people to come by anytime and they all knew where the key was hidden. Family and Friends were always welcome to Brighton Street.
In addition to her husband, Jim, she was predeceased by siblings, Kathleen Fallon (late Michael), Helen M. Cushing and Col. George T. Murphy.
Ann leaves her children, James E. Burgoyne, Jr. (Catherine) of Tewksbury, George T. Burgoyne (Vicki) of Plymouth, Helen M. Burgoyne of Green Harbor, Leo J. Burgoyne (Lisa) of Natick and Thomas M. Burgoyne of Marshfield; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews; in-laws, Harvey Cushing of Duxbury, Debbie Murphy of Panama City Beach, Florida, Georgine Brouliette of Townsend, Geraldine Smith of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
