Ann F. (Herman) DeVincent

Waltham – On the day that President Woodrow Wilson broke off relations with Germany, February 3, 1917, paving the way for America's entry into what would later be called the World War, Lithuanian immigrants Charles and Esther Herman welcomed their daughter, Ann Frances, into the world at their Cambridge home.

Ann would live into her hundredth year and for another fifteen U.S. presidents.

As a teenager she met a Lexington farmer by the name of Raymond DeVincent at a Cambridge water fountain who was hauling his wares to market on a horse-drawn cart. When she was twenty-two, and Ray a couple years older, the pair married and soon moved to Waltham where they made their lifelong home. They enjoyed fifty happy years until Ray's death on January 20, 1989.

For all of her married life and beyond, Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived to see her children's children . . . and their children . . . and reveled in their accomplishments. She attended a lifetime of events at school and at play including the Harvard graduation of her oldest great-grandchild.

Ann F. (Herman) DeVincent died at her Waltham home on Saturday, January 14, 2017.

Her life will best be remembered by her four children, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and their families for gathering the clan every week for Sundays at Nana's where she would happily prepare a week's worth of food in a day to feed her ever growing family. She learned by osmosis the Italian ability of perfecting a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs to an art form. A good day for her included a smile, a hug and healthy dose of love.

She leaves her children, Lorraine Walsh, Dorothy Pittorino and her husband, Gerald, Kathleen DiPasquale and her husband, Alfred, all of Waltham and Raymond DeVincent and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Kathryn and Anthony DeVincent, Christine Mazza and her husband, Thomas, Stephen Walsh and his wife, Lynne, Suzanne Pittorino, Andrew DiPasquale and his wife, Jennifer, Lisa Miller and her husband, John, Gerald Pittorino and his wife, Rebecca, Daniel DePasquale and his wife, Heather, Keith DeVincent and his wife, Jennifer, Kenneth Walsh and his wife, Julie, and Raymond DeVincent; her sister, Veronica Publicover of Sudbury; her friend and caretaker, Narcisa Welcome; twenty-two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was also the mother-in-law of the late Donna DeVincent and Walter Walsh; grandmother-in-law of the late Danielle DeVincent; sister of the late Eva Janus, Esther Fitzpatrick, Francis, Michael and Adam Herman and was a lifelong friend of the late Marguerite Nochella.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ann's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 18th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
