Waltham – Mrs. Ann Marie (Karl) McLaughlin, of Waltham, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Wingate of Weston. She was 87.
Ann Marie was born on February 16, 1930 in Munich, Germany, a daughter of the late Lorenz and Franceska (Gallant) Karl. She emigrated to the United States in 1953 and two years later married Brighton native James A. McLaughlin at Saint Margaret's Church in Randolph. After living in Dorchester for a time the pair moved to Waltham in 1957 where they raised their family.
Jim and Ann Marie had thirty-four happy years together before Jim's death on August 18, 1989.
Until her retirement Ann Marie worked as a secretary for Dr. Swati Chockaling, a Waltham physician. Before that she worked for twenty-five years as a switchboard operator at Waltham Hospital.
Throughout her life she and her large extended family in Germany spent many happy summers exchanging visits to Europe or to America.
She leaves her children, Ann Marie McLaughlin of Westford, Margaret F. Devine and her husband, John, of Lynn, John L. McLaughlin and James A. McLaughlin and his wife, Kelly, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Andrew and Kathryn Devine and Jillian and Sean McLaughlin; her sister, Bettina Haussler of Munich, Germany and many nieces and nephews.
Ann Marie was also a sister of the late Wilhelm, Lawrence and Franz Karl, Elli Wüst and Franceska Küntz.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ann Marie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
