Waltham – Mrs. Anna J. (Donahue) Brown, of Waltham, died Friday, August 24, 2012 at her daughter's home in Falmouth. She was 89.
Anna was born in Cambridge on June 18, 1923, a daughter of the late Martin J. and Annie F. (O'Malley) Donahue, both natives of Ireland. She moved to Waltham in 1948, a year after marrying Waltham native James F. Brown on November 29, 1947. The couple remained in Waltham where they raised their family of nine children.
Anna's devotion to her husband and children were unparalleled. Her home reflected the message on a plaque that hung over her door as the children came and went each day . . . 'Love one another'. She was long active with the Waltham Emblem Club where she was a past president and she also belonged to the Mother's Club at Saint Mary's Church on School Street.
Her husband of 47 years, Jim, died July 26, 1994.
She leaves her children, Catherine C. Brown of Nashua, New Hampshire, Rita L. Brown, Anna F. Brown, Mary E. Burke and her husband, Richard, all of Waltham, Margaret E. Bates and her husband, Gary, of Franklin, Janice T. Brown, David J. Brown, both of Waltham, Dorothy M. McCall and her husband, Harry, of Natick and Patricia E. Temte and her husband, John, of Northboro; her sister, Catherine Barry of Dedham; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Anna was also a sister of the late John, Patrick, Albert and Thomas Donahue and Mary Heaney.
Family and friends will honor and remember Anna's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 28th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
