West Newton – Mrs. Anna M. (Walter) Faulstich, of West Newton, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, February 21, 2016. She was 94.
Anna was born in Dorchester on December 25, 1921, the daughter of the late August and Emma (Reiniger) Walter. Her family lived for a time in Medford before moving to Watertown where she was educated. She was the valedictorian of Watertown High's Class of 1938.
Anna graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston with a degree in mathematics. A whiz with numbers, she worked as a "computer," solving math equations at the MIT Radiation Laboratory.
In 1950 she married Roxbury native Charles N. Faulstich and the couple moved to Waltham, where they raised their family of eight children. They enjoyed more than fifty-seven happy years together until Charles' death in June, 2008.
Anna was a longtime member of Saint Mary's Church where she was active in parish organizations. Later in life she tutored children and adult ESL students, assisted seniors with tax forms, and volunteered for hospice. For the past seven years she resided at the Scandinavian Living Center in Newton where she made many good friends.
Anna leaves her children, Mary Anne Paradise and her husband, James, of Norwood, Virginia M. Shiller and her husband, Robert, of New Haven, Connecticut, Charles N. Faulstich, Jr. and his wife, Elaine LeGendre, of Melrose, Robert W. Faulstich and his wife, María Hon, of San José, Costa Rica, John F. Faulstich of Redondo Beach, California, Marjorie E. Faulstich of Los Angeles, California, Dorothy L. Bowe and her husband, John, of Belmont and Nancy C. Faulstich and her husband, Ken Konviser, of Watsonville, California; one brother, Henry Walter of Wilmington, Delaware; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Frederick Walter.
Family and friends will honor and remember Anna's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, February 26th from 4 to 8 p.m., and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
