Anna-May was born in Cambridge on January 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Murphy) Monks and moved to Waltham with her family three years later. When the newly formed Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish was established in April, 1930 the Monks family were among the first families to worship there.

Throughout her life Anna-May was active in parish life. She taught CCD for years and had been a member of the Ladies Guild. On June 20, 1948 she married her sweetheart, Belmont native Herbert E. Vannasse, at Our Lady's and the couple made Waltham their lifelong home.

She graduated from Waltham High School in 1945 and worked for thirty-seven years in the clerk magistrate's office at the Waltham District Court, retiring at the age of 85½.

She was one of the founding members of the PTA at Northeast Elementary School and was the last president of Waltham's city-wide PTA. Anna-May loved to read and to travel with her late husband, Herb, with whom she travelled to eighty-six countries over the years.

She is survived by her children, Henry J. Vannasse and his wife, Maureen, of Stow and Herbert E. Vannasse, Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Waltham; her grandchildren, Ashley Fahey and her husband, Mark, and Aubrie Vannasse and many nieces and nephews.

Anna-May was the sister of the late Catherine Trudeau, Geraldine DiLorenzo, Shirley Newfell, and Harry Monks, Jr.
