Waltham – Miss Anne T. Hanning, of Waltham, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 83.
Anne was born in Boston and was raised in Waltham where she lived in the same home for the past seventy-seven years. She was a lifelong member of Saint Charles Parish where she was on the short list of people called to help out at church for generations. Anne could best be described as being, along with others, the blood and the bone of the Church.
An only child, Anne was raised by her mother, the late Flora (McEachern) Hanning. She once wrote that "having been raised by my great mother I've had a wonderful life. She gave her all for me and we had a great loving relationship. I never wanted for a thing. With no relatives close by my parish was my family and how I loved it! . . . I went on to be involved in many church activites -- God is good!"
Over the years Anne helped out with the youth group, parish council, folk group and served on all of the spiritual and social committees. She was a CCD teacher, lector, Eucharistic minister and organized the annual Women's Morning of Prayer. In November, 2013 she was honored for her service to the Church by receiving the Cheverus Award from Sean Cardinal O'Malley at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston.
For sixty-three years Anne worked at McQueen Insurance in Waltham . . . a job she started in high school and the only job she ever held. She loved her work and the people there even more.
Anne leaves many dear friends from her neighborhood and parish including the Pirie's, Carmel Moynihan, Doris Young, Carol Gill and the McMullins.
Her extended family and friends will honor and remember Anne's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 6th from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Vincent dePaul Society of Saint Charles Parish, 133 School Street, Waltham, MA 02451 or to the Cat Connection, P.O. Box 541435, Waltham, MA 02454.
