Anne V. Power

June 27, 1959 — October 26, 2013

Anne Power loved life and all the people in it. She was surrounded by her family and friends on Saturday, October 26, 2013 when she lost her brief battle with breast cancer at home. She was 54.

She has been reunited with her parents Robert and Virginia (Butler) Power who raised and educated her in Waltham. Anne graduated from Waltham High School in 1977. She furthered her studies at Trinity College in Washington D.C., earning a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies. At Trinity, as in every aspect of her life, neighborhood, high school and professionally, she formed friendships that would last her lifetime.

Professionally Anne began work as Assistant Director of Human Resources at The Sheraton in Boston and later Director at Bal Harbor in Florida. A move to New York City earned a position at The St. Regis Hotel, in the development offices of Starwood Corporation, Director of Human Resources at The Palace and lastly, The Westin Hotel.

She excelled in her work and won the respect and admiration of colleagues at all levels wherever she worked.

Her faith was always present in her life. From the day when she was baptized at St. Mary's Church her faith remained much of the fabric of who Anne was and it guided and sustained her in times of challenge, grace and blessing. She was always mindful of God.

Anne did the weekly New York Times Sunday crosswords in pen; she always knew the dates of anniversaries for birth, life and death without the aid of a calendar. She was well read; loved music and the opera, and beginning with her first Bruce Springsteen concert in 1980 she remained one of his biggest fans; she was the family historian and true to her heritage she loved all things Irish. Although she lived in Manhattan for over twenty years, she proudly drove her car with a NY license plate wrapped in a Boston Red Sox plate frame and just last week attended a playoff game at Fenway to see her much loved Red Sox win one last time; she loved her MG convertible; and her time in Harwichport and on Nantucket.

Diagnosed in February with cancer, she was supported by so many friends, family and medical professionals including Drs. Stacey Gore and Charles Tracey, and Mary Kelly RN.

Mourning her loss but grateful for the gift she was in their lives are her brother, Gregory R. Power and his wife, Elana R. Peled, and her niece, Alma, all of Georgetown; her aunts and uncle, John and Elinor Butler of Potomac, MD, Ruth M. Power of Bedford and Janice Power of Norwood; numerous cousins and a host of friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Anne's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday October 30th from 4 to 9 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to St. Boniface Haiti Foundation, 383 Elliot Street, Door G, Suite 100, Newton Upper Falls, MA 02464.
