Watertown - Mr. Anthony L. DeMella, of Watertown, died Friday, July 24, 2015 in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 88.
Anthony was born April 28, 1927 in Watertown a son of Italian immigrants Joseph and Nicolina (Lombardi) DeMella. A lifelong Watertown resident he was a graduate of Watertown High School. Like many other brave men of his era he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably during World War II. Upon his return from the war he married Lorraine T. Paulhus on May 7, 1949 in St. Joseph's Church in Waltham.
He worked for over 25 years as a truck driver for Teamsters Local 25 Union and then as a facilities operations manager for BayBank in Arlington for another 25 years before retiring.
Anthony was very capable and handy with many projects at home. His garage door was often open and he could be found inside tinkering on a fix-it project for many family, friends or neighbors. He loved his home and enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the many great things it produced.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine who died December 12, 2013 he was predeceased by his sister, Ann Creonte.
He leaves his children, Joseph A. DeMella of West Yarmouth and Watertown, Michael J. DeMella of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Lisa DeMella-Ferguson and her husband, Kevin of Waltham; his grandchildren, Kristin Murray and her husband, Jay, Joseph, Michael, Rachel and David DeMella and Cara Ferguson; his great-granddaughter, Olivia Murray; also survived by nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Anthony's life by gathering to visit at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, July 30th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where his Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
