Waltham – Mr. Anthony F. Merola, of Waltham, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday March 21, 2010 with his family at his side. He was 56 years old. He died of complications from Multiple Myeloma.
For more than 25 years, Anthony worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston as a Medical Photographer and laboratory technician. He enjoyed his work and received recognition for many of his photographic works including the prestigious Robbins and Cotran book on the Pathologic Basis of Disease used worldwide by medical students and physicians today.
Anthony had great faith and courage with his 4 ½ year struggle with cancer. He loved his family, his work and his garden. He will be remembered for his quiet and non-complaining demeanor, his love for nature, and his peaceful ways.
Anthony is survived by his 102 year old mother, Emma M. (Varvaro) Merola, M.D., his sister Marianne V. Merola; his brothers Joseph F. Merola, Jr. and Henry J. Merola, M.D., his sister-in-law, Rosemary Merola, all of Waltham and three nephews, Jonathan, David and Henry Jr. Merola.
Anthony was predeceased by his oldest brother, Frank R. Merola and his father, Joseph F. Merola, M.D.
Family and friends will honor and remember Anthony’s life by gathering for calling hours on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
