Framingham – Mr. Anthony F. Piantedosi, of Framingham, formerly of Watertown died Saturday, April 2, 2016 in his home. He was 93.
Anthony was born in Watertown on June 26, 1922, a son of the late Angelo and Elizabeth (Capone) Piantedosi, and had been a lifelong resident before moving to Framingham five years ago.
After his graduation from Watertown High School he worked as a truck driver before joining the United States Army shortly after the start of World War II. He arrived in England two months before participating in the invasion of Europe at Normandy, France in June, 1944 that unleashed the liberation of the Continent.
As a member of the 'Thunderbolts', the 83rd Infantry Division, he was assigned to the 323rd Field Artillery Battalion and saw action in Northern France, the Rhineland and the Ardennes, the infamous 'Battle of the Bulge', that occurred over Christmas, 1944 during one of the harshest winters on record in Europe.
Following the Allied victory in May, 1945 his unit remained in Germany before being sent stateside in November of that year.
Following the war he came home to a quieter life and married his sweetheart, Waltham native Eleanor M. Abbruzzi, in 1948. He worked for Muzi Ford in Needham for thirty-six years before retiring as the dealership's service manager.
Anthony was a life member and a past president of the East coast division of the 83rd Infantry Division Association. He belonged to Saint Jude Parish and found relaxation on the golf course and tending to his garden.
His wife of sixty-seven years, Eleanor, died March 9, 2015.
Anthony leaves his children, Joseph R. Piantedosi and his wife, Catherine, of Framingham and Judith A. MacKenzie and her husband, Kenneth, of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Robert Piantedosi and Kenneth and Douglas MacKenzie; his great grandchildren, Nicholas Jessica, Bela, and Mila Piantedosi, Victoria and Cameron MacKenzie and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Frederick, Michael, Carmine, Anna, and Emily Piantedosi, Natalie Russo and Nellie Magazu.
Family and friends will honor and remember Anthony's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, April 10th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
