Tony Scafidi had a long…and good life. At age 95 he was driving up until a month ago and worked out in his gym religiously until age 92. He was a much loved fixture as friend, neighbor, helper on Rosemary Lane in Centerville where he made his home since 1996.
He was blessed twice with the love of Mary 'Claire' (Boyd) Scafidi and later Mabel (Cunning) Scafidi, both of whom predeceased him. Tony joined them on Sunday, May 29, 2022. He died at Sunrise of Wayland after a short stay. He was 95.
Anthony J. Scafidi was born May 5, 1927 in Waltham a son of the late Joseph and Antonina (Aquilia) Scafidi. Raised and educated in Waltham he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II.
A longtime Waltham resident he moved to Framingham in 1975 and later to Centerville in 1996. He wintered in Hernando, Florida as well.
Tony was able and willing to fix pretty much anything from the workshops in his home for himself, family, friends and neighbors. He loved traveling throughout the United States and taking cruises to various destinations.
In addition to his wives, Claire and Mabel he is predeceased by his son, William Scafidi; his step-daughter, Michelle Fabri; his brothers, Martin, Dominic 'Mickey', Charles, Theodore, Salvatore, and James Scafidi.
He leaves his children, Donna M. Barberio (Robert) of Derry, New Hampshire, Robert A. Scafidi (Rina) of Bellingham, Janet Mailhiot (Al) of Framingham; step-father of David Cody (Kim) and Dennis Cody (Julie); step-father in-law of Michael Fabri of Framingham; also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Tony's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Saturday, June 4th at 10 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
