Waltham – Mr. Arthur M. Magee, of Waltham, died on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton. He was 77.
Arthur was born in Waltham on January 24, 1936, a son of the late Edward and Ruth (Manning) Magee. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1954 where he played on the baseball team.
He met his future bride, Mary Ellen Roach, at Lowell Field in Waltham and the couple married on June 17, 1961. They honeymooned at Lake George in New York where they would spend many happy family vacations throughout their lives. Arthur served his country in the Army and enjoyed sharing his experiences with others. The family looked forward to their annual trips to Wareham where their favorite spot was Swifts Beach. After thirty years of renting in Wareham they were delighted to be able to purchase their own cottage. Arthur was known to be a character and loved to tell jokes of all kinds. His life revolved around his family, especially his six grandchildren.
Arthur was the husband of the late Mary Ellen (Roach) Magee and is survived by his children, Arthur M. Magee and his wife, Donna, of Woburn, Laureen A. Magee and her husband, Tim Hussey, of Exeter, NH, Michael P. Magee and his wife, Leslee, of W. Roxbury, Kathleen M. O'Brien and her husband, Shawn, of N. Smithfield, RI, and Gail M. Magee of Waltham; his grandchildren, Allison, Hannah and Andrew Magee, Anthony and Gregory Baldi and Michael Patrick Magee and also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Steven J. Magee and brother of the late Edward and Warren Magee.
Family and friends will honor and remember Arthur's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday January 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
