Sarasota, Florida – Mr. Arthur J. Mixon, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Lincoln MA, died Sunday, January 9, 2022 at The Brookdale at Palmer Ranch, Skilled Nursing Facility in Sarasota. He was 95.
Arthur was born in Cambridge on April 10, 1926, the son of the late Scott I. and Isabella (McBeath) Mixon. He was raised and educated in Waltham and after graduation from Waltham High School he earned his Bachelor's degree from Tufts University. Arthur had been a Lincoln resident since 1956 until moving to Sarasota in 2015 to be closer to friends.
Until his retirement he worked for many years as a mechanical engineer for the Raytheon Company in Waltham. Arthur was also a World War II veteran, serving with the United States Army band.
Having been a lifelong member of Trinity Congregational Church (formerly The First Congregational Church of Waltham). Arthur faithfully served on the Diaconate and on the Board of Trustees for several terms each, taught in the Sunday school for many years and served on numerous boards and committees. A beloved pillar of the church, the congregation honored him with the dual titles of Deacon and Trustee Emeritus.
Arthur is survived by his cousin Barbara Bailey of Ocala, Florida and many dear friends including Rev. Allen Batchelder and Rev. J. Howard Cepelak.
He was the brother of the late John R. Mixon and cousin of the late Edward L. Thorsen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday, January 27th at 11 a.m. in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, Waltham. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery Braintree.
