Mr. Arturo Francisco Baguer, of Waltham, formerly of Garden City, New York died Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Meadow Green Nursing Facility. He was 83.
Born on May 8, 1936 in Havana, Cuba he was a son of the late Miguel and Gerturdis (Bosque) Baguer. Raised and educated in the Jesuit tradition at The Belen School. He later married his High School sweetheart, Rosa Tejera, on December 8, 1959 at the Corpus Christi Church in Havana, Cuba.
They immigrated to the United States in September 1960 first in Miami, later moving to Queens (Elmhurst) and settling for over 38 years in Garden City, New York. They moved to Waltham in 2008 after retiring.
Arturo graduated from Fordham University, Lincoln Center, with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting. He remained active in the Belen School alumni association, organizing yearly reunions of his classmates in exile.
He worked in international banking for Banco Nazionale del Lavoro in Manhattan, for over twenty years, specializing in Latin American finance and later for John Hancock Insurance before retiring in 1998.
Arturo and his wife were always active in their local Catholic churches. He taught Catechism and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Loretto in Hempstead, New York; educated his four children at Saint Joseph Parish School in Garden City, New York and later joined the congregation of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for decades.
He remained true to his New York loves and was a loyal fan of the Yankees. He kept active by swimming, and spending time on Long Island beaches and Cape Cod.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Rosa, he is survived by their children, Arturo Baguer Jr. (Helen Beckschi) of Milford, New Jersey, Maria Rosa Baguer of Belmont, Massachusetts, Miguel Diego Baguer of Brooklyn, New York and Carlos Francisco Baguer (Thomas Henson) of Manhattan, New York; his grandchildren, Nicholas Robert and Sofia Elena Jones; his siblings, Miguel Baguer II, Maria de Lourdes Rothe and the late Raul and Elena Baguer; sisters-in-law Natalia Tejera and Nico Tejera Fiallo (Armando Fiallo) many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of the Baguer and Tejera families and friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Arturo's life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 30th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York.
