Waltham - Mrs. Assuntina Reitano, of Waltham, formerly of Somerville, died at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 12, 2020. She was 78. Possa riposare in pace
Assuntina was born on February 27, 1942 in Gaeta, province of Latina, in Lazio, Italy a daughter of the late Michele Erasmo DeVellis and Lucia (Pasciuto) DeVellis. She married Luigi Reitano in The Church of San Francesco D'Assisi in Gaeta. They immigrated to the United States in 1970 settling in Somerville and moved to Waltham in 2005.
Assuntina's love was made visible through her talented knitting and sewing. Each of her children recalls the pajamas she made and the countless blankets given to family and friends. She was also a master in the kitchen preparing such wonderful dishes and food. Above all she loved being 'Nonna' and 'Ma' to her seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Luigi, she leaves her children, Andrew Reitano (Rita) of Revere, Michael Reitano (Michelle) of Methuen, Franco Reitano of Marlborough and Gina Torcasio (Salvatore) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Alessandro, Luca and Nico Torcasio, Luigi, Francesca, Sofia and Matte Reitano; her sister, Elisa DiSanto of Civitavecchia, Italy and the late Anna DiDomenico (late Armando); her in-laws, Salvatore Reitano (Tha) of Green Cove Bay, Florida, Guido Reitano (Judy) of North Reading and Patricia Iampietro (Mark) of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Assuntina's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, March 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. Her Funeral Mass on Tuesday morning in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, Waltham and entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Everett will be private.
