Barbara A. (Stanton) McCarthy

Barbara, A. (Stanton) McCarthy, of Waltham died Friday, January 5, 2024 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 85.

Born in Boston on January 18, 1938 she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Horan) Stanton. She was raised and educated in Brighton and graduated from Saint Columbkille High School. 

On July 18, 1959 she married the love of her life, Edward McCarthy, Jr. and the pair soon settled in Waltham to raise their family. In her early years, Barbara worked as a secretary before dedicating her time and energy to raising her children. Once her boys had graduated high school, she resumed her professional career as a loan officer at Waltham Savings Bank for many years prior to retirement. 

In addition to her husband Edward, she is predeceased by her sisters, Mary May McDonough, and Marion Lambert.

Barbara leaves her children Edward P. McCarthy (Maria), of Waltham and Robert F. McCarthy of Burlington; her grandchildren, Jessica McCarthy Nelson (Greg), Kelly McCarthy Pessotti (Christopher), David McCarthy, and Ryan McCarthy; her sisters, Peggy Finn of Bedford, New Hampshire and Jeanne S. Leonard of Milton and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends and family will honor and remember Barbara‘s life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Route 20) Waltham, on Wednesday, January 10th from 4-7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
