Mrs. Barbara L. (Lawless) Hinckley, of Waltham, died peacefully with her husband at her side in Bethany Healthcare Center in Framingham on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. She was 79.
Barbara was born February 21, 1945 in Waltham, a daughter of the late Francis T. and Dorothy (O’Leary) Lawless. Having grown up and received her education in Waltham, she graduated from Saint Charles High School, where she held the position of captain of the girls' basketball team and it was there where she made many life-long friends. On September 22, 1973, she married Walter T. Hinckley at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, where she remained an active parishioner for many years to come.
She spent over forty years in administration, initially at the former Waltham Hospital and later at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, before retiring. Throughout her tenure there she made many wonderful friends and thoroughly enjoyed working in the healthcare industry.
Barbara cherished attending her son's sporting events, relishing moments with her grandchildren, and eagerly volunteering in both her church and community. She possessed a deep affection for people and cherished every opportunity to spend time with friends and family. A true enthusiast, she was extremely passionate about all Boston sports teams.
Alongside her husband of 50 years, Walter, she is survived by her sons, Matthew & Kirsten Hinckley of Phoenix, Arizona, and Brett & Sonya Hinckley of Waltham. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Patrick, Eva Elizabeth, and Maia James Hinckley, as well as her sisters, Jean A. Lawless and Marilyn L. Lawless, both of Waltham. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sr. Ann Marie Lawless CSJ, Sr. Elizabeth Lawless CSJ, and Dorothy Berg, and is remembered by her niece, Diane Berg, of Randolph, MA.
A private family service will be held in Joyce Funeral Home and burial is Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
