Hyannis - Mrs. Barbara J. (Brown) Loughlin, of Hyannis, formerly of Watertown and Waltham, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, in Cape Cod Hospital. She was 85.
Barbara was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, on February 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Eugene and Kathleen (Spicer) Brown. She was raised in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School. She moved to Waltham in 1962 and had lived there until 1992 when she relocated to Barnstable.
Until her retirement Barbara worked at Brandeis University in Waltham and was an active community participant in Waltham. She enjoyed bridge, bowling, writing, games, crossword puzzles, and the beach. She filled her days surrounded by the company of those she loved. Her family was the center of her world.
She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Loughlin, Jr.; mother-in-law of the late Dennis Fligg and a sister of the late Richard and Eugene Brown.
Barbara leaves her children, Kathy Loughlin of Wakefield, Judy Fligg of Osterville, John Loughlin and his wife, Linda, of Delray Beach Florida, Jane Bella of Marlton New Jersey, David Loughlin, and his wife, Cindy, of Maynard and Jeannie Horn, and her husband, Rik, of Springboro Ohio; her brothers and sister, John Brown and his wife, Cindy, of Ashland, Margaret Walsh of Cambridge, David Brown and his wife, Sarmita, of Natick; her brother-in-law, Robert Loughlin of Florida; her sisters-in-law, Rita Scudder of Watertown, Marie Laughrea of Virginia and Peggy Loughlin of Plainville; her grandchildren, Logan and Aidan Horn, Shaun and Zac Loughlin, Laurie Coghlan, Andy and Matt Bella, Stephen and Danny Loughlin, Michael Fligg, Kelley Colon, Meghan Fligg, Jaimee Fligg and Brenna Hickey; her great-grandchildren, Dennis Fligg, Cameron and Bella Colon, Grayson Hickey, Teddy Coghlan and Lucy Bella and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Barbara' s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, April 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
