Waltham – Mrs. Barbara L. (Rennie) McCarthy, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Epoch of Weston. She was 86.
Barbara was born in Waltham on February 12, 1929, a daughter of the late Alfred A. and Helen V. (Ransom) Rennie. She was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School. In 1949 she married Newton native Richard C. McCarthy and the couple moved to Waltham in 1955 where they raised their family. They were married for fifty-one years until Richard's death on April 17, 2000.
For years Barbara was well known as the crossing guard at the corner of Warren Street and Beal Road to children and their families who attended the Warrendale School. She also worked until her retirement as a secretary in the coronary care unit at Waltham Hospital.
Barbara also possessed a talent for arts, crafts and ceramics and enjoyed teaching the skill to others.
She leaves her children, Wayne T. McCarthy and his wife, Roberta, of Waltham, Gwynne C. McCambly and her husband, Dennis, of Bradenton, Florida, Karen A. Budreau of Waltham and Kevin R. McCarthy and his wife, Karen, of Nashua, New Hampshire and here grandchildren, Colleen McCarthy, Richard and Nicole Budreau and Shane, Kevin and Tyler McCarthy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Barbara's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 1st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Patricks' Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
