Sanford, Maine - Mrs. Barbara A. (Ferguson) Penney, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New Hampshire. She was 73.
Barbara was born February 25, 1943 in Malden, a daughter of the late Ralph and Barbara (Taylor) Ferguson. Raised and educated in Stoneham she also lived in Wakefield before moving to Waltham in 1989. She moved to live with her daughter in Maine in December, 2005.
She had worked at Sweetheart Plastics, Wholesale Door Company, Osco Drug and lastly, Walmart while living in Maine. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, especially blankets for newborns, and time spent with her family at home.
In addition to her husband, Raymond I. Penney who died on March 25, 1992 and her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Patricia Olivadoti, Margaret M. Stoney, Richard and Joseph Ferguson.
She leaves her daughter, Dawn M. Hamel and her grandson, John P. Hamel, both of Sanford, Maine and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Barbara's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, August 14th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
