Mr. Benny J. Cappadona, of Waltham, died Monday, March 23, 2009 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 89.
Born in Waltham on September 4, 1919, a son of the late George and Lucy (Defina) Cappadona, Benny worked for many years for his family business, Central Motor Trucking in Waltham. He later became co-owner of Riverside Bowling Lanes in Watertown and Chesterbrook Restaurant in Waltham. Benny was a longtime member of the Waltham Lions Club where he participated annually in the Joe Lazaro Golf Tournament.
During World War II he served in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps where he participated in the invasions at New Georgia Island and Guam.
Benny leaves his children, Jean M. Bowser of Marlborough and his son-in-law, William E. Bowser of Marlborough, Nancy A. Fischer and her husband, Steven, of North Attleboro, Carol M. Cappadona and Bart J. Cappadona both of Waltham, Brett J. Cappadona and his wife, Debra, of Hopkinton, and Robert J. Cappadona and his wife, Joan, of Waltham; one sister, Mary Santolucito of Waltham; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He was the former husband of the late Ann M. (Mammola) Cappadona and brother of the late Thomas Cappadona, George Cappadona and Marion Mesite.
At Mr. Cappadona's request, funeral services will be private.
