Billerica – Mr. Bernard L. Barden, formerly of Waltham and Humarock, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was 89.
Bernie was born in Waltham on September 3, 1927, the youngest of seven sons of the late James and Edna (Dagle) Barden.
After high school he served with the United States Army. In 1953 he married Arlington native Anne E. Proudfoot and the couple made Waltham their home before moving to Humarock in 1993. They enjoyed sixty-two wonderful years together before Anne's death on August 19, 2015.
Until his retirement Bernie worked for West End Chevrolet/Sun Auto in Waltham and was a past President of Kiwanis of Waltham. Bernie will be greatly missed and long remembered for his love of singing, golf and enjoying spending time with his family and friends.
Loving father of Steven Barden of Sarasota, Florida, Linda Hylander, Pamela Clarke and her husband, Stephen, all of Billerica. Cherished "Papa" of Kerri Anne (Clarke) Strouse and her husband, William, Stefanie M. Hylander, Derek S. Clarke and his fiancée, Casey L. Aiello, Kayla M. Clarke, Kaitlyn B. Clarke, Stephen D. Clarke II and his great grandchildren, Abigail and Henry Strouse. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Raymond, Floyd, Alvin, John, Emmett and Elmer Barden.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Saturday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
