Waltham – Mrs. Bernice K. (Kelley) Martin, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 85.
Bernice was born in Boston on March 6, 1931, a daughter of the late Bernard and Honora K. (Cullen) Kelley. She was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Mission High School and Boston Clerical School.
She married William R. Martin, Jr. in Saint Matthew's Church in Dorchester and the couple enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage until Bill's death in 2010.
Bernice had worked as a secretary for the Walter Baker Chocolate Factory in Dorchester Lower Mills where she met her future husband and after her children were in school worked in the same capacity for area companies.
Waltham residents since 1960 Bernice and Bill found time in retirement to enjoy traveling and doting on their grandchildren.
She leaves her children, William R. Martin and his wife, Maureen O'Leary, of Boston, Anne Marie Tracy and her husband, Mark, of Burlington, and Donal F. Martin and his wife, Sandy Partyka, of Indian Hills, Colorado; her grandchildren, Mark Tracy, Katherine Tracy and Cassidy Martin and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was the sister of the late Donal Kelley.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bernice's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, April 7th from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
