Waltham – Mrs. Bertha (Silvia) Chartier, of Waltham, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Mount Auburn Hospital. She was 89.

Bertha was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts on September 22, 1921, a daughter of the late John and Maria (Jesse) Silvia.

She was a Waltham resident for almost sixty years. She worked as a was a sales clerk at the former Diamond Bakery in Newton’s Four Corners until her retirement. Previously, she had worked at Raytheon Corporation.

She was an avid card player who loved bingo and going to Foxwoods. Bertha was a wonderful cook who served traditional Portuguese dishes.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene A. Guba and her husband, Ronald, of Cape Cod; her grandchildren, David P. Aucoin, Jr. and his wife, Marybeth, of Atlanta and Ashley J. Guba of Cape Cod; her great grandchild, Anslea C. Aucoin; her niece and special friend, Diane S. Huntley of Waltham; and many other nieces and nephews.

Bertha was the sister of the late Edward Silvia, Palmira ‘Mabel’ Ivancich, and Dorothy Moniz.
