Betty Jane Hally

February 3, 1930 — August 11, 2019

Betty Hally had a contagious sense of humor, fantastic wit…and a wide filter. You knew where you stood with her and if it was on her tongue chances are you heard her thoughts. She didn't mince her words but by the same you knew she liked or loved you or both!

In her 89th year Betty found life's eternal rest on Sunday, August 11, 2019 when she died at The Christopher House in Worcester after a period of failing health.

On February 3, 1930 in Worcester Betty Jane was one of six daughters born to the late Arthur and Beatrice (Schofield) Maylott. A graduate of Commerce High School with the class of 1948 she married Harold P. Hally Jr. on April 23, 1955 in Saint Stephen's Church on Grafton Hill. Active residents of Auburn since 1963 they moved to Shrewsbury in 1999. Harold died November 11, 2011.

Prior to staying at home to raise her children she worked as office manager for Worcester Envelope Company. And while at home raising her kids, she was entrepreneurial in spirit and action. Among the many varied part-time jobs she took she rallied her lady friends to be demonstrators of food and sundries at the former Iandoli Supermarkets. Long before the infamous line in Life cereal commercials…'Try it…you'll like it' Betty Jane Hally had them at hello. She was quite successful as a sales person. She kept busy and was able to bring supplemental income into the household while her husband worked at Washington Mills, Abrasives & Tools Industrial Supply and lastly at the company he founded, Technical Tool Corporation.

Active in her much-loved Town of Auburn she was a member and past-president of the Woman's Club, past-president of League of Catholic Women Voters and served as Chair of the United Way Campaign. Monday nights meant ladies night for over 40 years where it was fun, entertaining games of poker and a myriad of conversation with Norma Wallace, Natalie Gwither and Ginny Mantainis. She and Harold loved to travel and experience many adventures by train. Oil painting was a great pastime and seldom was she not seen with a book at hand, a handful of peanuts, a can of beer or a chocolate bar. She faithfully followed her Red Sox and treasured times on the beaches at Horseneck, Hampton and Daytona with her toes in the sand, sun on her face, sounds and smells from the ocean and the company of her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Harold she is predeceased her granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Hally and her sisters, Barbara Chapin, Phyllis Gigliotti, Marjorie Hjelm and Ruth Carther.

She leaves her children, Kathleen E. Sullivan (Thomas) of Franklin, John P. 'Jack' Hally (Kimberly) of Shrewsbury and Michael T. Hally (Leah) of Westborough; her grandchildren, Leslie E. and Terrance M. Sullivan, John P. Hally Jr. (Lauren), Bridget I., Timothy F., Matthew S. And Kathryn M. Hally; her sister, Janet Pierce of Maine; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Betty's life by gathering for calling hours on Tuesday, August 13th at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, 284 East Temple Street, Boylston from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
