Billie Jane Swisher, a lifelong resident of Waltham, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley. She was 77.
Born in Waltham on September 25, 1946, Billie was the daughter of the late Edward and Patricia (Forster) Wallace. She was raised and educated in Waltham.
Billie's commitment to helping others was evident throughout her life. After graduating from Waltham High School, she pursued her passion for nursing and received her nursing degree from Regis College. She furthered her education and earned a master’s degree in nursing from Boston College. Billie worked as a Nurse providing compassionate care to countless patients at Mass General Hospital for over 25 years, and at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center before retiring.
In addition to her dedication to her career, Billie prioritized her faith and family. She was a devoted mother who actively participated in her children's schooling and activities as they grew up. Her unwavering faith in God gave her the strength and resilience to care for others in numerous ways. Billie was a long-time parishioner of Corpus Christi - St. Bernard Parish, where she found fulfillment in being actively engaged with her faith community there.
When not working, Billie cherished spending quality time with friends and family. She particularly loved retreating to Marshfield for relaxation and rejuvenation.
In addition to her parents, Billie was predeceased by her sister, the late Carol Generoso.
She leaves her children, Michael E. Swisher and his wife Amanda of New York City and Sandra L. Swisher and her partner Michael Andriolo of Waltham; her grandchildren, Justin Bibb, Alexandra Viteri, Avery Jane Swisher, and Georgia Dee Swisher; and her niece and nephew, Nicole Fredette and Ronald Joseph Poirier.
Family and friends will honor and remember Billie‘s life by gathering in Saint Bernard's Church, 1523 Washington St, West Newton, on Monday, January 29, 2024 where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
