Bilya Espinoza

Bilya Espinoza, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Brigham And Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 91.

Born on April 18, 1934 in Huanuco, Peru, Bilya was the daughter of the late Artemio Astuquipan Ramos and Agripina Jauregui Cornejo. She married the late Antonino Espinoza Sr. in Huanuco, where they started their family together, raising nine children. In 1993, Bilya made the decision to move permanently to the United States, where she took great pride in the loving home, and the opportunities she created for her family through her love, sacrifice and a lot of hard work.

Bilya started working at an early age, she was an entrepreneur and owned various businesses in Lima, Peru. She also worked at Hannaford’s supermarket in Waltham for more than 20 years. Her motto in life and the teachings she always gave her children was to be a good human being, God loving, honest, hard worker, and to give love to others. She embodied each of these lessons, always putting others before herself, and her example of how to live a good life is a gift her family will always treasure.

Bilya leaves her children, Fortunata Espinoza (Late Nestor Marchena), Raymundo Espinoza, Carmen Espinoza, Kiler Espinoza (Carmen Espinoza), Luzmila Espinoza Garcia (Jose Garcia), Yudi Salazar (Jorge Salazar), Virginia Ridley (John Ridley), Antonino Espinoza (Martha Estrada) and Miguel Espinoza (Irma Aratom); her grandchildren, Aldo & Luis Marchena, Elizabeth, Daniel, Nicole, Steven & Luana Espinoza, Pablo Marchena, Keler & Leonardo Espinoza, Franco, Gabriel, Alejandro & Isabella Garcia, Jorge, David & Kamilla Salazar, Alejandra Ridley, Sophia, Andrea & Benjamin Espinoza, and Miguel & Victoria Espinoza; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Samantha & Franco Marchena, Luke Baez, Alexander Espinoza and Oliver Marchena; her sisters Lili Astuquipan & Nilda Astuquipan and many nieces nephews and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bilya’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, April 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery Waltham.
