Virginia Beach, VA – Boatswain’s Mate First Class Brian J. Ouellette, USN, of Virginia Beach, formerly of Waltham and Maynard died Saturday, May 29, 2004. A Navy SEAL, he was one of four U.S. Special Forces members killed while on a mounted patrol when their vehicle struck an explosive device in the mountainous region of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan. All four were members of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. Born on February 12, 1967 in Brighton, he was the third child of John J. ‘Jack’ and Margaret H. (Desmond) Ouellette of Maynard. He grew up in Waltham where he graduated from Waltham Vocational High School in 1985. In high school he was a member of the football and lacrosse teams and also held a black belt in Kempo-style karate. He was a resident of Virginia Beach for the past thirteen years. On his 23rd birthday in 1990 he joined the Navy and after completing rigorous SEAL training, graduated from the Naval Special Warfare Center in March, 1991. He was attached to Navy Special Warfare Group Two at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia. Before being deployed to Afghanistan, he served at various locations in Central and South America and in Bosnia. In addition to his parents he leaves six brothers and one sister, John C. Ouellette of Amelia Island, FL, Michael D. Ouellette of Uxbridge, Kenneth D. Ouellette of Boxboro, Marie Tucker and Dennis R. Ouellette both of Maynard, James P. Ouellette of West Boylston and David A. Ouellette of Reading; his grandmother, Margaret E. (Teletchea) Desmond of County Clair, Ireland, formerly of Watertown; nine nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was also a grandson of the late Daniel J. Desmond and Clarence and Edme Ouellette. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8th, from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Luke’s Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown. Visiting hours at the funeral home are Monday, June 7th, from 4 to 9 p.m. A Military Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10th, at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Norfolk, VA and at 4 p.m. the same day a Memorial Mass will be offered at the Church of the Holy Family, North Great Road, Virginia Beach, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the Brian J. Ouellette Fund at The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
