Waltham – Mr. C. Arthur LaHaise, Jr., of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in his home. He was 86.
Arthur was born in Jamaica Plain on February 18, 1924, a son of the late Charles Arthur and Alice (Flanders) LaHaise. He moved to Waltham in 1948 when, after a five year courtship, he married his sweetheart, Helen McCusker, in Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Waltham.
Until his retirement he worked for 49 years as a technical writer for the Raytheon Corporation. Arthur was a 1941 graduate of Brighton High School and he attended Northeastern University in Boston. He was a daily communicant at Saint Mary’s Church in Waltham where he had been a former member of the parish finance committee. Arthur was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Waltham Lodge #953 and had been a co-manager for twelve years at the former Waltham Hospital of the Prostate Cancer Support Group. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry, ballroom dancing and music.
He leaves his wife of sixty-two years, Helen J. (McCusker) LaHaise; his children, Peter A. LaHaise and his wife, Mary Anne, of Chelmsford, Stephen P. LaHaise of Waltham and David L. LaHaise and his wife, Linda, of Vero Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, Kristen, Courtney, David, Jr., Nicole Shuckerow and her husband, Michael, Eric, Stephanie, Jessica, Kevin and Brian; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was the father-in-law of the late Cheryl LaHaise and brother of the late Jacqueline Ford- Vaglica and Joan Adams.
Family and friends will honor and remember Arthur’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday, September 3rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
