Waltham – Mrs. Catherine A. 'Kay' (Walsh) Champion, of Waltham, died Friday, April 17, 2009 in the Deutsches Altenheim German Centre in Boston. She was 92. Kay was born on June 15, 1916 in Nashua, New Hampshire, a daughter of the late William J. and Catherine C. (Robichaud) Walsh. She had lived in Waltham for most of her life, most recently at the Leland Home. Before that she made her home for eight years with her daughter Cathy and her family in Dedham. Until her retirement she worked for Zayre's Department Store in Waltham and before that she worked at the Waltham Watch Company and for the Raytheon Company. She was a founding member of Saint Jude Parish in Waltham where she remained very active. She had been the Prefect of Saint Jude Church Sodality. She was also a member of the Beaver Brook Apartment Seniors Association and enjoyed knitting, bridge, and was a voracious reader. The wife of the late Robert C. Champion, she leaves her son, William J. Champion and his wife, Gloria, of Waltham; her daughter, Catherine A. Champion and her husband, Joseph Janas, of Dedham; her sister, Rita Curtin of Waltham; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Kay was also the mother of the late Robert C. Champion, Jr., and a sister of the late David Walsh, John Walsh, William Walsh, and Lillias Raymond. Family and friends will honor and remember Kay's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
