Waltham – Mrs. Catherine L. ‘Kay’ (Joyce) Garvin of Waltham died Thursday, January 27, 2005 in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bedford. She was 86. Born in Wakefield, a daughter of the late William and Ann (Dugan) Joyce, she was a Waltham resident for the past fifty years and until her retirement worked as a clerk for the Veterans Services Office for the Town of Watertown. During World War II she served with the U.S. Coast Guard and had been involved with several area patriotic events, especially during the time following 9/11. An avid bowler, Kay was a member of the Wal-Lex Senior Bowling League in Waltham. She was also a member of the North Waltham Senior Citizens Club and had been a volunteer at the William F. Stanley Senior Center in Waltham. She also participated in the adult swim group at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club. Kay also enjoyed line dancing and traveling. She was the wife of the late John F. Garvin. She leaves her children, John F. Garvin, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Waitsfield, Vermont, Fred J. Garvin of Waltham, Joyce A. Hervey and her husband David of Framingham, Claire M. Boucher and her husband Bob of Watertown, and James M. Garvin of Acton; one brother, William Joyce of Melrose; three sisters, Dorothy Pignatelli of Melrose, Ruth Yanish of Scranton, Pennsylvania and Mary Keefe of Depew, New York; her grandchildren, Alyssa Garvin of Vermont, and John and Lauren Hervey of Framingham and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Monday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Waltham Boys and Girls Club, 20 Exchange Street, Waltham, MA 02453.
