Waltham – Mrs. Catherine H. (Dunlea) Hughes, of Waltham died at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 17, 2017. She was 74.
Catherine was born in Boston on October 7, 1942, the daughter of the late William and Helen (Bishop) Dunlea. She was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School. She and her husband owned and operated Hughes Enterprises, a company that built self-service car washes. She was a boating enthusiast and had belonged to the Watertown Yacht Club for many years. She was also very devoted to her faith and was an active member at Christ Episcopal Church in Waltham. In later years she enjoyed volunteering at the Waltham Public Library.
Her husband of forty years, Robert J. Hughes, died in March of 2006 and she is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth J. Moseley and her husband, David, of Billerica and Suzanne M. Hughes of Waltham; her siblings, William H. Dunlea Jr. of Medfield, Ralph W. Dunlea of Marlborough, Aubrey A. Dunlea of Melrose and Margaret Schumaker of Stoneham; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Robert J. Hughes, Jr.
Family and friends will honor and remember Catherine's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 21st, from 4 to 8 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday morning at 10 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 750 Main Street, Waltham and burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
