Newmarket, NH – Ms. Catherine Ann ‘Kaye’ MacLellan, of Newmarket and formerly of Waltham, died peacefully August 1, 2024 at Exeter Hospital in Exeter, New Hampshire. She was 93 years old.
Kaye was born on July 3, 1931 in Newton and was the daughter of John A. and Agnes (Ross) MacLellan, both natives of Inverness, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
She attended schools in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School in 1951. After graduation she worked in the personnel office at Raytheon on Seyon Street in Waltham and then as a buyer at many TRW locations throughout Massachusetts.
Retirement from TRW in 1991 did not slow Kaye down, she volunteered at the Waltham Hospital Gift Shop, Food Pantry at Saint Patrick’s in Watertown, and the Waltham Museum. For over 20 years she could be found as voting warden for Waltham’s ward 8-1 on Orange Street.
In addition, she and her lifelong friend, Peg Nix were active at the Waltham Senior Center, Waltham AARP, and successfully completed all Waltham Police citizen outreach programs offered.
Kaye was not tied to her Waltham roots, often travelling to Florida, Lake Winnipesauke and Shapleigh, Maine to visit with family and friends. Her most exciting trips were to the Central Pacific to visit her family that lived in Kwajalein, Republic of the Marshall Islands. Kaye was able to traverse the nearly 15,000 miles on her own – twice in her late 60’s; where she met and made many new ‘Kwaj’ friends.
She was also a communicant of Saint Charles Borromeo in Waltham and of Saint Mary Parish of Newmarket.
Kaye was predeceased by her grandson, Joseph ‘Joey’ MacLellan, Jr. and her siblings, Angus ‘Brother’ (and his wife Lucy of Waltham), Mary ‘Dee Dee’ (and her husband Edward Armstrong of Whitney, Texas), and Harold ‘Howie’ (and his wife Janet of Methuen).
She leaves her son, Joseph MacLellan and his wife Carolyn of Newmarket New Hampshire (formerly of Lexington); two grandchildren, Cassandra and Lacey and her wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Kaye’s first great-grandchild, Lark Portia MacLellan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Kaye’s long life by gathering for a morning wake on Saturday, October 5th from 10 to 11 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
