Patsy Mahoney, of Waltham, passed away peacefully surrounded by those she loved on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at her home. She was 85.
Catherine Patricia Lally was born on July 27, 1934 in Waltham, a daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Hickey) Lally. After graduating from Saint Mary's High School she attended Bentley University where she would later work for over twenty years as an executive assistant in the office of the president before retiring in 1999. Patsy was given the Bentley Founder's award, an honor that she cherished forever.
She loved the game of tennis and managed before, during and after marriage and family to make her way to the court to play the game either at the Waltham Athletic Club or elsewhere. She travelled extensively – whether in the United States or around different parts of the world. One of her favorite trips was to Greece with her valued best friend Helen and her sister Judy. She also always enjoyed any Broadway show she could attend.
She was there for any friend or family member and never put herself before anyone. An ever-willing listening ear for any problem or story, she had a talent for making people feel like they were the only one in the room—no matter what may have been happening in her own life. Described by her family as a one-of-a-kind person, she always engaged in conversation with anyone and everyone. She will always be remembered and loved for her genuine selflessness, thoughtfulness, and saintly nature.
Widowed by her husband, the late Edward J. Mahoney, Jr. she is also predeceased by her brother, Raymond Lally and his late wife, Anne.
She leaves her children, Edward J. Mahoney of Waltham, Paul K. Mahoney (Maria) of Attleborough, Michael J. Mahoney (Karen) of Waltham, Mari K. Mahoney of Waltham and Matthew Mahoney (Paula) of Mesa, Arizona; her grandchildren, Jaime Mahoney (Michael Hicks), Lauren Mahoney (Matthew McCarthy), Mallory Mahoney, Danielle Mahoney, Michael Mahoney (Blake Richards), and Nicole Farthing (Dustin); five great-grandchildren; her siblings, John Lally (Pat) of Wildwood, Florida, Michael 'Mickey' Lally (Kathy) of Leominster, Mary Abeyta (late Michael) of Sun City, Arizona, Jacqueline Sears (late John) of Concord and Judith Sarto (George) of Dennis; her dear sister-in-law, Carol Collura (Vincent) of Lowell; many nieces & nephews.
