Waltham - Mrs. Cecilia G. (Miller) Decola, of Waltham, died Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 98.
Cecilia was born in Southbridge on June 13, 1920, the daughter of the late Ralph and Cecilia (Walsh) Miller. After high school she attended Massachusetts State College in Amherst where she studied Fashion and Design.
Cecilia met a young soldier by the name of Louis "Sam" Decola while he was home on leave during World War II and it was love at first sight. The couple married on November 17, 1948 in Saint Mary's Church in Southbridge.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Sam's hometown of Waltham where they made a home and raised their two daughters. They spent sixty-eight happy years together until Sam's death in November of 2016. Cecilia and Sam were loyal and faithful members of Saint Jude Church and she served in many capacities including belonging to the Altar Guild, Ladies Sodality and serving as a Eucharistic minister.
She leaves her children, Cecilia F. Viscardi of Northborough and Maureen Decola Harrison of Waltham; her granddaughter, Julie Viscardi-Smalley and her husband, Justin, of Shrewsbury; her greatgrandchildren, Charlie and Luciana Smalley and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late George E. Miller, Ralph E. Miller Jr., Edward W. Miller and Robert W. Miller.
Family and friends will honor and remember Cecilia's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 27th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again on Monday morning at 10 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
